You are a possible participant in this study if you are at least 18 years of age. For scientific reasons, this information sheet does not include complete information about the study hypotheses and the research questions being tested. We cannot tell you every detail of this study ahead of time, but if you are willing to participate under these conditions, we will explain the procedure to you fully after your participation.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY The purpose of the study is to explore how individuals differ in their evaluative reactions to other’s behavior.
PROCEDURES If you volunteer to participate in this study, we will ask you to read short stories. Each story is followed by a few questions. We ask you to indicate how much you approve or disapprove of certain behaviors. We then lead you to a questionnaire about your moral attitudes. We will also ask you about your age, gender, education, and month of birth. Participation in the study will take a total of about 10 minutes.
POTENTIAL RISKS AND DISCOMFORTS No potential risks are anticipated. If you however feel discomfort in answering certain questions, you are free to skip these questions without consequences of any kind.
POTENTIAL BENEFITS Although you will not benefit from your participation in this survey, those interested in this research will be able to refer back to the author’s web site at http://www.sscnet.ucla.edu/anthro/faculty/fessler/ and see the final results. In addition to the benefits of conducting basic research, society may benefit from a fuller understanding of how individual differences influence moral judgments.
